On May 1, 2005, the new non-Stalinist Left met in Warsaw, coming together separately to then march together, under the Red Flag, to a joint rally with the post-Stalinist social-democratic parties that hold power, organised at the headquarters of the largest trade union federation, the OPZZ. The new Left were intent on countering the proposal of the Polish social-democrats that Mayday, the festival of labour, should be replaced by "European picnic".
